Patricia Broadbelt
Ms Broadbelt is a native New Yorker who has lived most of her life in Brooklyn. She is an emerging artist and has been on her own gradual path as a self-taught artist. After a long career as a lawyer and educator, she made a promise to herself that she would travel and discover the artist within her. She has done both whole-heartedly.
Ms Broadbelt uses her work to forge a connection with her ancestors. Decades ago, the film “Daughters of the Dust” moved her deeply. She saw and felt her ancestors through this film. It deepened her resolve to connect with them in a spiritual way through her art and to preserve their memories.
As the self-appointed repository of family photos, it is her passion to work with these vintage photos in a manner which will give dignity and respect to her ancestors. While Ms Broadbelt works in several mediums and styles—watercolor, acrylics and collaged works, she is most committed to collaged works.
