Aleathea Sapp-Jimenez

Working with acrylic, paint markers and other media on canvas, Sapp-Jimenez creates vibrant and evocative portraits of real life and imagined people against colorful and mainly organic backdrops. She encourages viewers to start a conversation while experiencing her work, all intentionally left with no titles. She believes art is her own outlet that permits her to breathe. Her love of flowers and patterns shows as a common thread throughout her paintings. To her the flowers represent a form of metamorphosis that transcends our lives and the patterns are part of the life decisions we make daily. After viewing this exhibit, she hopes you will walk away wanting to start your own conversations.

Sapp-Jimenez describes herself as a "wife, mother, grandmother, mentor - a Brooklyn native with an African-Caribbean American background who loves to create life's mysteries in the face of her work." She worked as the Cultural Enrichment Director for 30 years at the Boys & Girls Club developing inner-city youth's creative voices with community art exhibits, talent shows, fashion shows and spoken word.
